Say hello to Jill Moynan, our new Jr. SEO Specialist at Gatorworks! With a knack for strategic thinking and a passion for digital marketing, Jill excels in connecting the dots between various factors that influence a client’s organic rankings. An avid learner, she continually refines her skills to stay ahead of industry trends. Let’s get to know more about Jill’s motivations, her approach to SEO, and some fun facts about her interests!

What do you enjoy most about your role at Gatorworks?

I really enjoy my position as a Jr. SEO Specialist at Gatorworks because SEO is far from a “one size fits all” approach — it’s more of an art than a science. It demands creative thinking and “outside the box” approaches; connecting the dots between various factors that influence a client’s organic rankings; and staying up-to-date on industry trends and updates to the technologies we work with. I also love being part of a team with a shared goal of delivering tangible results for our clients and suggesting ways that we can improve our strategies, highlighting the value of search engine optimization. Additionally, this role has allowed me to refine my SEO skills and continually grow, which is a must in any digital marketing role.

What about digital marketing drew your attention?

Digital marketing is a field that is always evolving and offers endless opportunities for creativity and innovation; things do not stay the same day in and day out. The dynamic nature of digital marketing continually keeps me engaged since it combines analytical thinking with creative problem-solving. Plus, seeing the direct impact of my efforts on a business’s growth is incredibly fulfilling! I am also glad to work with a digital marketing agency with the core focus of reducing digital frustration for clients, as this is a common issue within the digital marketing realm.

You’ve got an impressive vinyl collection! If you could have dinner with any artist from the 50s, 60s, or 70s, who would it be, and what would you ask them?

I think I’d go with Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, and I would ask him how and when he first discovered the alternative guitar string tuning “DADGAD” (standard string tuning is “EADGBE”), which was used on the 1975 hit “Kashmir” from the Physical Graffiti album and I think a few other tracks as well. I would also ask about his earliest influences that inspired him to become a guitarist in the first place!

We heard you like to cook! Imagine you’re starring in your own cooking show. What’s the signature dish you’d teach everyone to make?

Homemade chicken and dumplings. This might be an unpopular opinion but I think it’s even better than chicken noodle soup, especially when we’re in the colder months!

You’ve mentioned that you enjoy uncovering connections between different factors in SEO. Can you share some advice on how you discover that, “Aha!” moment?

I’ll use GMFS Mortgage as a recent example of this. During July Insights, I noticed an unusually large increase in organic impressions, clicks, and users (larger than what we normally would see). While this may sound like a good thing, it was a potential cause for concern. To see if this increase may have been caused by spam traffic, I conducted a backlink audit. The audit discovered a high amount of toxic and potentially toxic backlinks pointing to the GMFS website, a likely source of spam traffic. As an SEO specialist, digging deeper and making these kinds of connections is crucial. It’s not enough to just track surface-level metrics; understanding the underlying factors driving these metrics can reveal hidden issues or opportunities for our clients.

You have a fresh water fish tank! Do you have a dream fish to add to your tank or is your Kuhli Loach, Bandit, going to remain star of the tank?

My next addition to the tank would probably be a different kind of Loach: the Yoyo Loach! They are adequately named based on their markings, which look like the word “yoyo”. I should probably get two or three more Kuhli Loaches as well to keep Bandit company – they do well in small groups. The only thing is that they are nocturnal, so they would probably hide all day like Bandit does.
