First, we want to hear about your hobbies and interests.
A lot of my time is spent watching movies. If I’m not home watching a movie or designing, I’m out with friends or at my parents’ place. I have a very tight-knit family, so family hangs are a pretty common occurrence.
Traveling is also very important to me. I’ve had a list of travel destinations since high school, and I’ve been steadily checking them off. Admittedly, my list would likely be finished by now if I went to Disney World less. I participated in a Disney internship while in school. Since then, I find it difficult to not go back at least once a year.
Why are you passionate about graphic design?
I remember having the realization that every logo on a toy, character on a cereal box, and title sequence for my favorite shows had to be created by someone. And then in high school, I discovered that the people creating the things I saw every day were called graphic designers. I knew I wanted to be a part of that world ever since. Taking something that exists only in your head and making it real is an incredibly and rewarding feeling. In my humble opinion, graphic design is the most practical and rewarding outlet for creativity.
You have a button which, when you press it, does something. What does yours do?
My button is 100% a teleportation device. While I love visiting different places, the traveling part is less than desirable. My button removes everyone’s least favorite part from traveling. Press it and instantly travel to whatever location is in your head.
Have you worked on or are you currently working on any exciting projects outside of work?
I’ve been laying pretty low outside of work. I take on the occasional freelance project, but I am between projects right now. I’m currently considering taking part in Inktober this year, which is an initiative on Instagram where you draw based on daily prompts during the month of October.
What movie title best describes your life?
My life in a movie title would be 2001: A Space Odyssey. The 2001 doesn’t mean much to me, nothing important happened when I was 11. But I like to think we’re all living our own space odyssey. I grew up reading books about space, both fiction and non-fiction. I used to think of Earth as a giant spaceship, and the inhabitants are just passengers. Admittedly, I still have that thought when I allow my imagination to grow unchecked.
What appealed to you most about Gatorworks and the culture here?
From the first couple of interactions, I could tell that Gatorworks exhibited a company culture that I could easily align with. That culture being, a group of individuals who work together towards a common goal, while maintaining a healthy balance of work/play. I’ve also always been impressed with the work Gatorworks puts out. I am excited to come aboard to learn from a company that does web so regularly and effectively.
