banking on BR

We’re proud to be a part of the Guaranty Corporation family. A big part of our pride comes from this family’s focus on the community. It has a long history of supporting a wide variety of local events, charities, fundraisers, and causes. And, during this COVID-19 pandemic, the community needs our support more than ever. We’re joining its charitable arm—The Guaranty Foundation—along with GMFS Mortgage in “Banking on BR,” to support the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank (who also happens to be a client of ours)

Banking On BR

The COVOID-19 pandemic crisis has touched all parts of the Baton Rouge community. Sadly, the less fortunate in the Greater Baton Rouge area are among the most affected. To help bank on Baton Rouge’s future, both Guaranty and GMFS are each matching $25,000 of community donations—that’s $50,000 total in matches! The original goal was to raise $50,000 in community donations to provide a total of $100,000. However, after launching the initiative last week, that goal was met in a matter of days! Banking on BR is now shooting for $100,000 in community donations for those who need it most. Can you help us all reach that goal?

The Need Has Never Been Greater

Why the Food Bank? And why now? Well, before COVID-19, one in seven individuals in the 11-parish area and one in five children were facing food insecurity. The pandemic has resulted in the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank responding to a much greater need than usual. As recently reported in The Advocate, this is due to a variety of factors:

  • Families are experiencing temporary unemployment and lost income.
  • Contact-dependent donations and food drives are currently impossible.
  • Food stockpiling has resulted in fewer community donations.
  • A decrease in donations through the Retail Store Program.

Because of this unprecedented situation, the Food Bank is relying on monetary donations so that their shelves won’t go empty.

Won’t You Feed Your Neighbor?

One silver lining of this crisis has been the chance to see more of our neighbors (from a safe distance). Now more than ever, our neighbors are in need. We’re all part of this Red Stick Neighborhood—let’s bank on each other by Banking on BR. We’re not together, but we’re not alone! What’s more, because of the Food Bank’s prudence and partnerships, every dollar donated can help provide THREE meals to help your Baton Rouge neighbors. So, visit brfoodbank.org/bankingonbr, and help feed your neighbor by Banking on BR with Gatorworks and Guaranty.
