What do you think is the most important part of a winning social media strategy?

There are a few key things to remember when it comes to planning a social media strategy. The first is to remember that social media is about being social, consider what you would want to see from your brand if you followed it. You would probably want fun content that draws in users whether it’s oddly satisfying videos or new product launches. Take a look at what other businesses are doing, it may spark some inspiration for a reel.

Next, you’re going to want to make a list of everything about your business. So, think about categories like “about you,” “products,” “FAQ,” and whatever else might be a general topic that circles back to your business. Use this as your guide to rotate through topics so that you’re covering every angle of your business.

Finally, don’t try to listen to what every creator on Instagram or TikTok is telling you about “how to succeed” because, in reality, there are many aspects of their businesses that they are not sharing that have helped them grow. It’s easy to watch someone with 500k followers tell you not to use hashtags to grow because they didn’t, all the while they’re paying for ads for people to follow them. Just stick with the social media basics and grow your knowledge from there!

What are some of your favorite social media accounts?

My favorite social media platform is Instagram, so I have a ton of people that I love to follow for many different reasons.

@Latermedia

Later is a social media marketing scheduling platform that posts inspirational content about creators, information stats, social media-related memes, reels that are relatable to social media managers, and more. They’re a great profile to follow for social media news and updates but also for inspiration for reels.

What is a social media mistake that companies can easily fall into?

A lot of companies forget that social media is meant to be social. Social media is supposed to be for the fun side of your business, showing off the behind-the-scenes, getting people pumped for new products or services, engaging with your followers, and having a good time at the end of the day. It’s not meant for businesses to flood consumers with bright red flash sales or boring TV commercials. Where’s the fun in that?

In order for your business to succeed on social media, remember to have fun with whatever you’re going to post. Jump on a viral reel trend or partner with your favorite local influencer or another business for a giveaway. You can even create lots of buzz by building anticipation for a new product or service. Consider your social media strategy as a soft sell: it’s not meant to outright make people click over to your website. It’s supposed to entice them to want to follow you for business updates and to purchase later on.

Tell us about some of your favorite spots in New Orleans!

I love so many places in New Orleans for so many different reasons, but I do have a few go-tos. Effervescence is a champagne bar near the French Quarter that has a huge variety of champagnes to try! They also do really fun brunches on Sunday that change weekly.

Another fun place is Justine’s. It’s a beautiful French restaurant with Instagram-worthy decor and even better food. If you are looking for the ultimate speakeasy, underneath the Orpheum Theater is a place called Double Dealer that is circus-themed but gives you real speakeasy vibes. I could go on and on about different places around New Orleans, but these are the three that are truly my go-tos.

In your opinion, what is the most overrated meme?

There are so many memes out there, but one that is really overrated is anything that has to do with Harambe. If you don’t know the legend of Harambe, it’s a gorilla that lived in the Cincinnati Zoo that was was shot because a three-year-old boy fell into his cage and Harambe dragged him around.

Not long after, memes circulated the internet with his face or a generic gorilla and random saying to go with him. In reality, it’s overrated because it’s used for every situation, it doesn’t really have a good reason to be used or shared as many times as it has. There are better memes out there and Harambe isn’t one of them.
