Welcome to the NEW

Our team recently had the pleasure of working with New Orleans attorney/entrepreneur Zach Kupperman of Policy Pitch. We gave his website a nice face-lift from a design / usability standpoint. (We did not do the development -only design) allows people to propose new public policy ideas and track local legislation at the state level.

Big Presence for Gatorworks at Southern Republican Leadership Conference

Our team has been working tirelessly over the last several months for one of our largest clients of the year: The Southern Republican Leadership Conference (SRLC). We had the pleasure of handling all the design work for the conference including (but not limited to) the conference logo, printed program design (80 pages), various direct mail pieces, apparel design, poster design, press backdrop design, directional signage, and of course an interactive website.

LIVE Blog: BarCamp NOLA 2009

11:20AM I’m here at day 2 of BarCamp NOLA 2009 in the LaunchPad building. An Event Apart: Boston – Retrospective

This past weekend my coworker @davidlink and I drove 1,500 miles north of the Mason-Dixon line to a little town called Boston, MA. Why would we undertake such a ridiculous feat you ask? My response is: To attend An Event Apart, only one of the greatest web design and development conferences on the face of this glorious planet.

Newest Website Launch: Ken Blackwell for RNC Chairman

A few weeks ago we launched a website for RNC Chairman candidate Ken Blackwell. The website was built using WordPress (the PHP CMS/blogging framework), and the layout is set up much like a blog. We integrated a lot of the social networking tools including ning, twitter, and the new facebook connect app.

Design Process: Pre-Production is King

Today I attended a meeting of the AAF Baton Rouge chapter, and I had a fairly eye-opening experience. I realized though I may work at a Graphic Design firm, I didn’t have any idea about any of the competition in the area. I really had no information from what I’ll call the “outside world”- meaning any company other than Gatorworks.

Typography Wins and Fails: Trajan Example

Here’s a shining example of Trajan, the font which has become dubiously known as the “Movie Poster Font”. Click the image for a full size picture of one of the most overused fonts in the movie industry. This is a classic example of a mistake that even top logo design companies can make if they […]

Typography Wins and Fails

Welcome to the inaugural post of Typography Wins and Fails. Our purpose here isn’t to bash every use of bad typography we find, but to simply bring to light the frequency of common errors and the good examples of typography in modern media. My favorite example, Trajan Pro a typeface designed to resemble the lettering on Trajan’s Arch in Rome.
